John Travers and his Indian companion Yak are after the mysterious Shadow and his gang. When Sheriff Davis is killed, Travers becomes Sheriff. Catching two gang members, he learns of the room where the gang gets their orders from behind a fake wall safe and makes plans to trap the Shadow.

“The Star Packer” is a formulaic John Wayne Western, where he plays a U.S. Marshal who rides into a lawless town stalked by a mysterious outlaw known as “The Shadow.” The performances are typical Poverty Row fare, stiff, serviceable, and more memorized than felt. For Wayne completists, it’s worth a glance. For everyone else, there are better places to start.
