But when his son Gabriel enlists in the army to defend their new nation, America, against the British, Benjamin reluctantly returns to his old life to protect his son.

Man, this movie pisses me off because it's such a good movie, but the writers really butchered some of the historical accuracy. I love colonial American history and to my surprise they are very accurate about a lot of aspects in this film, but they just ignore other aspects completely. Just to name a few, they completely sanitize the slavery subject and make the British unrealistically and cartoonishly evil. I get why they did it. 'Merica and whatnot. It's a Hollywood movie after all.
One other nitpick would be the choreography was weak at times and the slow mo sure didn't do it any favors.
