Heads or Tails

Heads or Tails
Not your typical Italian western. Outlaw makes good by rescuing raped and beaten dancehall girl who eventually falls for him. Sexually deviated murdering banker's widow Sybille adds some spice. The scenes of insane church ladies tar and feathering the dance hall girls can not be described. The director attempts to push some Giallo tropes in the movie and it works. Should be watched for the experience.

Tonally all over the damned place, but if you’re a bit forgiving this one is pretty good. I like the take on religious women that have lost their religious fervor and make up for it by going after the “immoral” woman working at the saloon. What triggers all that is a woman accused of killing a man after sex. She escapes and is raped by a gang. Found by John Ericson -a hero with a nasty streak himself - who gains her trust and works on clearing her name. Did I mention fair Edwige Fenech plays a tanned Mexican woman? She is a second banana but shows her star power. On of memorable scenes shows a rich religious woman getting off watching Edwige being whipped by the mob while her black woman slave gently pleads with her to help her. Violent and dark but most of it is cleverly implied rather than shown. What ruins things is the Benny Hill comedy music when woman are tarred and feathered like it’s fun. Scenes like that take this viewer right out of the story.
