Still reeling from the loss of Gamora, Peter Quill rallies his team to defend the universe and one of their own - a mission that could mean the end of the Guardians if not successful.

I've always liked Quill and his roving band of morons, but Vol. 3 really dials up the sad factor. This time around, it's all about Rocket, and the High Evolutionary is merely a side plot that helps compound our favourite raccoon's story. While I'm usually pessimistic about there being too much drama and not enough loss and overall world / universe destruction under a seemingly unstoppable threat, Vol. 3 really makes you feel the feels, especially when paired with Gunn's great taste in the oldies. It really feels like the Guardians have matured, and with the entire squad figuring out how to deal with their emotions and losses, you find out so much more about everyone - even Drax (who, let's be honest, is everyone's favourite of the bunch). I'm excited for the next film featuring our Guardians, since the events in Vol. 3 have shaped them in a very interesting way - but with Gunn manning the new DC Universe, I'm hoping that won't be too far away.
