Twisters

Twisters
As storm season intensifies, the paths of former storm chaser Kate Carter, lured back to the open plains after a devastating encounter years prior, and reckless social-media superstar Tyler Owens collide when terrifying phenomena never seen before are unleashed. The pair and their competing teams find themselves squarely in the paths of multiple storm systems converging over central Oklahoma in the fight of their lives.

A new direction.
The second film in this, now, series seems a little less believable than the original, yet it takes on a life of its own. Twisters is two parts drama, one part love story, with some storm chasing to wrap up the story.
This film lacks the relationship between the characters as one is clearly detached from her team; another is clearly working for the bad guy...why does there need to be a bad guy? It's a sequel to an overcoming disaster film; the best character in the film is over the top. He wears a cowboy hat and has a need to have everyone love him; there is a distinct lack of companionship, and some of the characters have different hair styles to try and indicate that they are 5 years older...they look the same.
The engaging music and character building is sorely lacking... yet there is something still here. Twisters has more in common with a 'B' rated film than the kind of film that it had a budget for, and that made it a fun ride.
The original film, Twister, still stands fine on its own and doesn't need a sequel. However, I don't object to this cheese fest of a film.
I recommend that if you choose to watch Twisters clear your mind, leave your reality at the door and go with the flow.
Additional note, while none of the cast of the original appears or is mentioned, there is a definite nod to it as the film starts with trying to launch Dorothy IV. Considering that there were only three built according to the first film.
