The heart-warming true story of Maurice Flitcroft, who entered the 1976 Open despite never playing a round of golf before. The extraordinary story of an ordinary man, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPEN is an uplifting and moving comedy drama about pursuing your dreams and shooting for the stars, no matter what hand you're dealt.
A stranger than fiction tale of Maurice Flitcroft the titular Phantom of the Open, a former crane operator who manages to finagle entry into the British Open despite having never golfed before. It’s an utterly charming story that serves up proof that it’s never too late to chase your dreams. Mark Rylance and Sally Hawkins seem like the most tenderhearted souls in real life that their casting here is virtually note perfect. A fascinating story that I was completely unaware of, but one that I’d be curious to see a feature documentary. Highly recommend. Bonus points for making me feel better about my golf game.
