Off the bat the missing pieces with the change in directors and lack of Sally Hawkins is felt. Peru just feels less genuine, trying too hard to force that warm wholesome feeling the past movies established naturally. Trading the streets of London for the Peruvian jungle wasn't a terrible choice but writing it with an angle of a goofy greedy gold villain(s) turned this into like a slapstick Indiana Jones adventure. While it seems like I'm feeling negative about the return of Paddington, there's still a lot of wholesomeness and innocence from the character. Peru was stacked against greatness, times two actually, with the odds against it. Came out disappointed as it just didn't hold up to the standard Paddington has been built on.
