Follows Allison, whose life falls apart following her involvement in a fatal accident.
I am genuinely surprised that people are generally liking this movie. I found this to be extremely melodramatic and the screenplay to be completely lackluster. Some scenes were legitimately hard to watch because of how the dialogue was written—the bar scene with Alex Wolff comes to mind and the club scenes towards the end. Zach Braff’s writing feels like he’s forcibly trying to squeeze any ounce of sentimentality he can into this script. An example being, making Freeman a model trains enthusiast just for the purpose of those bookends with Freeman’s narration.  Still the cast nearly saves this…..nearly. Pugh demonstrates a lovely singing voice and most of her scenes with Freeman, Shannon and Uche are performed well and even emotionally moving at times. I just think the film is undercut by the exaggerated characterizations and contrivances in the script. I never once felt like these could be real people.
