When a group of archaeologists uncover the tomb of a legendary warrior, they unearth Kuuga’s belt, accidentally releasing an ancient race of monsters called the Grongi, bent on destroying humanity. Enter Yusuke Godai, a modern-day guy next door, who learns he is telepathically linked to the mysterious stone belt. With its power, he transforms into the legendary warrior known as Kuuga, humanity’s only defense against the murderous Grongi monsters.

My favorite Kamen Rider I've seen so far--will write a more detailed review when I revisit this one at the end of my journey as it's been a while since watching--but make no mistake, this is a great time. Operating not unlike a police procedural, this more mature take on the formula feels wonderfully realized as you follow the progressive growth of Kuuga against the deliciously realized antagonists playing their inscrutible game of mass murder. A genuine heroic journey impeccably realized while never losing the core of what makes Kamen Rider so unique as a franchise--and what's more, a cool archeological angle that my childhood self couldn't get enough of. Only thing I remember not wholly loving was some of the choices around the ending, but the ending itself is great and has stuck with me.
This is the series that made me fall in love with the potential of Kamen Rider--don't miss this one.
