First and foremost I must applaud the uproariously funny banter in the film. It has a flow that conjures fond memories of The Dick Van Dyke Show and The Odd Couple but with a bit more raunch and filth. I found the narrative direction to be quite fresh especially given the pedantic potential of the subject matter. It has its share of lull but as soon as the two leads are on the screen everything goes nuclear. They're hot electric on screen together. They're playing toxic jazz and the sound is stellar. The film flirts with a downtempo denoument but crescendos one last time at the end almost as a naughty subtle fuck you to the naysayers.
