The rare horror film that lives up to its potential and reputation. It is on point with Aliens and the Exorcist in the fear factor and gore. The special effects still mostly hold up. The movie is a self examination of our collective fears around evil and the ideas of hell. To further exemplify this concept is that there is a full lack of what heaven or paradise would be… only hopelessness. After all, this is what the true horror of hell… a glimpse of perfection and happiness incarnate only to be deprived of ever experience it it or even a facsimile of it again. Event Horizon is the movie that starts with hope and sheds it off thinly with a razor until you are raw bare. The only thing that would make it better would be the original cut with the missing scenes.
