Not sure what was happening the first time I watched Psychomania, somehow I straight up hated it. This time I came out with a much greater appreciation.
The visuals are steeped in British folk horror aesthetics- misty moors, ancient symbols, and ominous rituals- while the narrative remains firmly rooted in counterculture chaos. That scene where the bike ramps out from the grave is just iconic. Paired with the bikers donning skull helmets zipping around town wreaking havoc. The bikers’ rampages, paired with a hypnotic, funk-inspired score, create an oddly infectious energy. A very different and unique take on folk horror.
