Emilio Estevez, Mick Jagger, Anthony Hopkins, Rene Russo and David Johansen (the band New York Dolls, singer alter ego Buster Poindexter, Scrooged) star in a movie written by one of the writers of Total Recall and the director of Young Guns II. This movie felt like it was trying to be a cross between Total Recall and The Running Man, something much more suited to an action star like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Funny enough, it turns out that it was supposed to be. When he wouldn’t sign ok they eventually ended up on Estevez since he was hot after Young Guns II.
This movie is an absolute mess, so much so that Hopkins has publicly apologized for it, but it’s a charming mess. Don’t expect anything good. The effects did not age well at all. Most of the interesting ideas in the book it based on were stripped from the movie. But the actors were fun and it’s rare to see Jagger in an acting role.
