Barely has any visual storytelling but surprisingly makes the movie interesting purely through really well written dialogue that’s delivered superbly by all the actors. Sam Spade is a character like no other, a stultifying force that commands the room every time, while having motivations that come from both vanity and a sense of calculating justice. The story itself is nothing too crazy but the way Spade unwraps the mystery with each character interaction is engaging and sometimes funny too. I think this might be my first foray into film noir, looking forward to checking out more movies in the genre.
