A Ridley Scott visual masterpiece that will get your patriotic blood pumping, only to feel pity and remorse over the useless waste of human lives, both innocent and maligned.
As loosely based on reality as this movie is it pays a stunning and emotional tribute to the two Delta Force snipers, Sergeant First Class Randy Shughart and Master Sergeant Gary Gordon who volunteered to hold off waves and waves angry local civilians - hopped up on drugs, patriotic fever and driven into a rage by the local guerrilla militia. There is desperation and confusion on both sides.
In the end you feel for the men and women involved. With no definitive “good guys” and “bad guys” you see the human meat grinder these people have been thrust into - each side thoroughly convinced they are doing what they do for the right reasons.
