Buried among the slew of slashers, Happy Birthday to Me packs a lot of substance and avoids most of the cliches plaguing the slasher sub genre- even delivering a touch of giallo flare. It's a shame this isn't talked among the classics because the production quality is greater and the story holds a little more value than what you'd find in the big name franchises of the day.
At first we see the killer only with black leather gloves and a blue striped scarf but whoa-oh! Don't get ahead of yourself, everyone is shown with black leather gloves and a blue striped scarf to keep you guessing who the killer could be- even the deceptive camera angles will make you suspicious of who could be slicing away the students of Crawford Academy.
Don't sleep on this little gem! You'd be surprised how good the acting and production quality is as well as the surprising twist ending that you couldn't possibly see coming.
