Grimy low budget 70's exploitation in the same vein of gross classics of the time like Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Deranged, Eaten Alive, Bloodsucking Freaks, etc. Directed by noneother than Ivan Reitman featuring a young Eugene Levy.
Cannibal Girls is scrappy- blending horror, sexploitation, and deadpan comedy sometimes spicy, sometimes bland, but definitely one of a kind. Pulling from the mastermind of William Castle with a gimmick where a warning bell rings before the gory scenes.
What Cannibal Girls lacks in polish it makes up for in weird charm. It has that grainy, grindhouse feel that can't be replicated today. It doesn’t always hit its marks- pacing can be sluggish, and the tone wavers between horror and parody but when it works, it’s a lot of fun.
