Still reeling from the loss of Gamora, Peter Quill rallies his team to defend the universe and one of their own - a mission that could mean the end of the Guardians if not successful.
The most fun I’ve had at a Marvel movie in quite some time. The humor really works well with these characters, particularly the Drax-centric humor, which pretty much always hits. James Gunn has a genuinely great handle on all of these characters. The visuals looked stellar, especially in IMAX. The action set pieces were exciting and exceptionally well-realized, especially the corridor fight sequence. The film is not without issues, though. Several flashback sequences shed light on Rocket’s origins. Some flow smoothly with the rest of the narrative, but others feel out of place and drag the pace. No spoilers, but the Marvel fake death trope rears its ugly head (I won’t say how many times). But anytime there was a moment that had me scratching my head, in the next moment, the action or the humor picked back up and reminded me of what a great time I was having. The finale and the wrap-up felt pretty clunky to me—as in, the directions the characters are headed when the movie ends felt unnatural. But at the same time, it felt like a fitting conclusion to this group in its current make-up, with some of the character arcs coming full circle. Really really fun time at the theater, and the 90’s needle drops….🤌
