The Tate/Labianca murders happened because of a bad drug deal and Mansons' fear of the Black Panthers. He (Manson) was trying to get Bobby out of jail by making it look like the Panthers killed the Tates/Labianca's along with a drug dealer that Bobby was in jail for.
Also, Manson didn't use "Satan" to "brainwash" his friends. He used Hallucinogenics and "love."
