Supacell

In South London, a group of normal people suddenly develop superpowers, and the only apparent connection between them is that they are all Black; as they deal with the impact of their powers on their daily lives, one man must bring them together.
Forget everything you know about superhero shows—Supacell isn’t here to save the world. It’s here to show you what happens when superpowers show up in real people’s lives, with real problems, in the middle of South London. 🏙️⚡🩸 This show blends sci-fi with real-world struggle, tying superpowers to sickle cell—a disease that disproportionately affects Black communities—and turning that into something empowering, painful, and deeply human. The powers are cool, the scaling makes sense (thank you), and the emotional arcs hit. You’ll root for some characters, hate others, and find yourself completely invested after like, one and a half episodes. The acting is strong, the setting feels lived-in even if you’re not from London, and it tackles everything from racism (internal and external), to grief, addiction, poverty, and self-worth. It’s only six episodes, but it gives you plenty to chew on—and leaves you wanting more. The emotional depth is just as important as the action, and it does not feel like a Marvel clone. This one stands on its own, quietly brilliant and sharply intentional. If you’re into superpowers with substance, this is your show. 4 stars — and I’m definitely showing up for Season 2. 💯🧬
