Magpie

Magpie
A stylish neo-noir thriller centered on married couple Anette and Ben, whose lives begin to fracture when their daughter is cast alongside a glamorous movie star, Alicia. As Anette's suspicions of Ben's infatuation with Alicia intensify, their secrets and lies threaten to burst to the surface and destroy them all.

One of those films that exists purely for the [spoiler]. Characterizations are razor thin. We barely get any information or backstory beyond the fact that this couple (Daisy Ridley and Shazad Latif) has a marriage that has grown stale with each side harboring some resentment towards the other. But when their daughter lands an acting role along side a famous actress Matilda Anna Ingrid Lutz, Ben (Latif) begins to seek a relationship outside of his marriage. Despite the lack of characterization, I still enjoyed it quite a bit. It’s sleekly shot. In particular, I liked the look of the period piece production that the daughter is starring in. I did predict how the finale would play out, but enjoyed it nonetheless. A breezy good stream at home flick.
