While the acting is quite stellar from the stong leads, this prequel feels stale despite exhibiting many of the positive traits of the first film. It takes very few risks which puts it in a place that feels somehow superior to the sequel and yet also less exciting. Day One adds very little to the series in terms of cinematic narrative and world building. It could be just a symptom of my sequel fatigue, but the more Quiet Place films they make the more I wonder why the series even exists artistically. Although, it's obvious why they exist commercially. There's nothing that this film offers that we haven't woefully seen dozens and dozens of times since Cloverfield. Why does everything need to be a series? Why not try and explore a concept as fully and thoroughly as one can in the first film and then move on to something else. Most of my most favorite horror films were one-offs outside of the first two Alien movies.
