A scientist at a Florida university inadvertently creates a "rage virus" while performing experiments intended to restore dead brain tissue in baboons. When a journalist for the college paper breaks into the campus lab, he's bitten by one of the infected baboons; the virus soon spreads to a trio of rapists and a valley girl, all of whom go on killing sprees.

Boasting a plot that follows the infectious spread of a deadly "rage virus" with the potential to turn ordinary people into frenzied maniacs. The monkey isn't so much the focal point rather a device to spread an experimental disease among the population. One bite or scratch and you turn into a raging beast dripping various bodily fluids- not far off from a zombie set up.
Primal Rage is an unapologetic embrace of the horror genre's visceral side. Practical makeup and gore effects shine as gruesome transformation scenes take center stage. Italian horror influences are palpable, adding depth to the insane imagery and lending the film a distinctive personality.
