Didn’t love it like I thought I would but it was a solid family animated adventure. Gorgeously animated throughout, though I really didn’t like the aerial battle near the end, that is captured like a war film, but just has this generic hexagonal biodome like structure in the background. That sequence has a noticeably sterile aesthetic, compared to the lush and wild natural backdrop of the rest of the film. As a parent, the film almost seems geared towards the parent perspective for most of the runtime and tackles some heavier themes. But that kind of made the finale a little less satisfying as everything kind of wraps up with some very rose-colored glasses. Absolutely enjoyable, but I wouldn’t hail it as one of Dreamworks best, as the marketing is proclaiming it is.
