If you're looking for Space Odyssey or even Clockwork Orange levels of Kubrick flair you're not gonna find it here. It's a fairly grounded direction of a rather dreamlike narrative. As a complex and layered look at the sex lives and desires of a married couple it is generally an uncomfortable watch but one that is likely to flicker in your thoughts every now and then from the end credits onward whether you're prepared to admit it or not.
