Australian authorities arrest a man believed to be connected to the Sydney criminal underworld and send for Inspector Fang Sing Leng from Hong Kong to question him. After the alleged criminal is assassinated, Inspector Leng and the Sydney police try to hunt down those responsible and hope to solve their case along the way.
Cultural mishmash of Australia, Asia/martial arts, and James Bond. The Man From Hong Kong is a spectacular actioner full of wild stunt work. This is the real deal- none of that poser Tom Cruise hanging off an airplane or sitting on top of a tower bullshit. Some of the fight choreography wasn't the strongest but really I wouldn't say the martial arts was the focal point as there are a variety of action sequences that resemble the western styles. Familiar names Hugh Keyes-Byrn, former Bond man himself George Lazenby, Sammo Hung, and of course Jimmy Wang Yu all brought together. An impressive film from front to back with an even more impressive last half hour which concludes to an explosive climax- literally.
