Really enjoyed it for what it is even if I’m growing a little weary of the secret society of assassins sub-genre. This one starts off a little rough too. The dialogue in the Minus Eleven bar encounter was incredibly stupid along with the entire setup of the action. It’s clear the writing is functionally there just to get us to what we’re really at the theater to see. The action sequences. They are, again, really well constructed and really well choreographed. Loved how Eve’s character uses grenades in one sequence. The film looks really good too. Loved the top down flamethrower shot. (Flamethrowers in general almost always look great on screen). Because of the marketing for this film, I was expecting to see Keanu a bit more. However, I will say, I really didn’t notice that he hadn’t been in the movie hardly at all until he finally makes his reappearance near the end. I think thats a credit to De Armas and the filmmakers. 75% of the dialogue in this is pretty bad. Thankfully, there’s not much dialogue to begin with. The film would probably still work without dialogue altogether. It’s a straightforward revenge tale where the action and visuals take center stage.
