A brother and sister uncover a terrifying ritual at the secluded home of their new foster mother in this nerve-shredding possession horror from the breakout directors of Talk to Me.
Cashing in (again) on a grief/trauma-centric narrative, Bring Her Back rides familiar tropes in its set up. Trauma induced stress from the death of a loved one, a manipulative third party pitting a relationship against each other, a greatly trusted individual with a dark side. These are fairly broad vehicles to drive the story, though used to take this thing into some original twisted directions. Bring Her Back wasn't the analog nightmare vibe the trailers alluded my expectations to be. Slightly letdown but far from disappointed. Things do take a minute to get interesting, a lot of the front felt like it was hitting familiar beats of structured storytelling. Madness unravels to hide the motive, and it only lets loose from there. The film is another stellar modern title proving original horror is alive and well. "Sometimes, dead is better."
