"My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken Me?" It is towards this climactic crossroads that the story of Jesus of Nazareth leads, and to which, at the final moment, it again looks back in triumphant retrospect. It is the anguishing crossroads where the eternal questions of faith and doubt become resolved.
All things considered, this is a good movie. I would contend however that a story worthy of being the greatest ever told deserves a great movie. To that end, this dramatization of the Gospels comes up short. The all-star cast is impressive but part of a problem. The constant parade of famous faces popping up throughout the film tends to distract from the story, culminating with a regrettable cameo by John Wayne, who dresses as a Roman soldier but sounds like a cowboy. I mean, just get an actor who can deliver the line, he doesn't have to be famous. If you can look past the over-casting of well-known former (now deceased) Hollywood denizens, it's a pretty good production, especially the technical aspects. There are however, some better movies out there that cover the same material.
