Navy Lt. Tom Farrell meets a young woman, Susan Atwell , and they share a passionate fling. Farrell then finds out that his superior, Defense Secretary David Brice, is also romantically involved with Atwell. When the young woman turns up dead, Farrell is put in charge of the murder investigation. He begins to uncover shocking clues about the case, but when details of his encounter with Susan surface, he becomes a suspect as well.

A great movie couched in a building mystery that ends with one of the most unexpected and shocking endings I can remember.
The movie gains steam slowly, but relentlessly until it culminates in a tense resolution, only to completely douse you in cold water with a twist that I never saw coming.
Kostner is appealing and convincing (as usual), Gene Hackman is great, Will Patton is fantastic as a dedicated government stoolie with his own selfish goals and a perverse fascination with power and hero worshipping, and Sean Young is sexy and fun.
I always enjoy watching this movie whenever I come across it.
