rebecca ferguson single-handedly increased the quality of this franchise by simply being in it. this movie is pure gas from the first scene. mcq has the sauce, this really tactile sense of filmmaking. the motorcycle chase sequence feels so visceral. ethan’s dedication to his friends is borderline obsessive. the hand to hand combat’s shot so exhilaratingly, each set piece brilliantly laid out and explored throughout the action, an overwhelmingly satisfying experience with such a resounding score. this is an excellent action movie - emblematic of this series’ evolution into a high quality action adventure series - though it’s not the kind of spy thriller i love, like the original 90s film.
p.s. it’s not lost on me that ilsa is the new female lead and that they go to casablanca. that was a choice made specifically to appeal to my sensibilities.
