Before you ask: No, you don't need have to watched the show at all. Just picture the brand new concept of a cop who doesn't play by the rules (if you can!)
If anything, this is a weaker entry in a stronger series that hopefully gateways you to the original. That being said, it's still a very good thriller on its own merit!... Albeit there are some scenes in the last 25 minutes that require some pretty eye-rolling suspension-of-disbelief of how fire and, now that you mention it, water work. 🙄
