Clarice Starling is a top student at the FBI's training academy. Jack Crawford wants Clarice to interview Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a brilliant psychiatrist who is also a violent psychopath, serving life behind bars for various acts of murder and cannibalism. Crawford believes that Lecter may have insight into a case and that Starling, as an attractive young woman, may be just the bait to draw him out.

A truly mesmerizing crime thriller. As a fan of detective stories and shows like Dexter, the original Hannibal films had been on my list for a while — and this one absolutely lives up to its reputation. It laid the groundwork for the tension and psychological depth that modern thrillers are built on. What’s impressive is how the film keeps you hooked even with minimal music; the atmosphere is dark, calm, and calculated — just like Hannibal himself. You can feel that, even behind bars, he’s the one in control and always three steps ahead. The main murder case almost feels like a side plot, but that doesn’t hurt the film’s impact at all. I’m really looking forward to watching the follow-up. A must-see for any fan of crime and psychological thrillers.
