Bale's early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Psycho came out in 2000, I think he really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole performance has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the movie a big boost. He's been compared to Daniel Day-Lewis, but I think Bale has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.
In 2000, Pressman released this; American Psycho, his most accomplished film. I think its an undisputed masterpiece. A film so memable, most people probably don't pay attention to the message. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the lack of accountability for elites and the effects of unregulated corporatism!
