They understood the assignment. Add some favorite Sonic characters. More Jim Carrey.
And a pretty great final act that incorporates plenty of fun stuff from the classic Sonic games. A couple negatives are that the humor isn’t quite as funny as I remember the first one being. And there’s a fairly long section in the middle surrounding some of the live action characters that should have been dropped from this movie altogether. I like Jim Carrey, James Marsden and Tika Sumpter and their roles in the film, but the rest of the story should really focus on the animated characters.
Aside from those couple negatives, this is pretty much exactly what I would hope for in a sequel and I’m totally down for whatever they have in store for the third, which gets a pretty good post credit tease here. Plus my kids really liked it and bonus points for the Seattle setting. (Ooooh, I get it. The Emerald City 👏🏻👏🏻)
