In an era when terrifying beasts roamed the seas, monster hunters were celebrated heroes and none were more beloved than the great Jacob Holland. But when young Maisie Brumble stows away on his fabled ship, he's saddled with an unexpected ally. Together they embark on an epic journey into uncharted waters and make history.
One of the few benefits of having kids is that I have an excuse to watch all the family movies that come out in the theater without having to go watch Puss In Boots by myself. (I totally would do that, it’s just less awkward for everyone at the theater when I have my kids with me).  It also means I don’t usually have any catching up to do for the Oscars because I’ve already seen everything. But somehow, my family watch this without me at some point. And not one of them wanted to watch it again. So I had to watch this children’s movie by myself.
It was pretty good, thankfully. Most of the time, the visuals looked absolutely stunning. Some of the time it did look very much like a Netflix animated TV show. Voice acting was really well done. Jared Harris should probably do more voice work. He was a standout. I really enjoyed it. Probably my least favorite of the 5 nominees, but it’s very good. Probably would have been more enjoyable, if I had gotten to watch with my kids. I tend to like things more if my kids have a good time watching as well.
