Long ago, a war broke out in Japan that pitted Kantou against Kansai and divided the country. Kansai became dependent on Kantou, but slowly the police and government began losing control of Kansai to criminals known as Akudama.

A true Cyberpunk is both a thriller genre and a mystery with devastating twists; a world divided into a two tier society, the haves and have-nots, where the protagonist faces insurmountable odds because the upper society controls all manor of life and the solution to the story usually requires the protagonist to "break" their world. The Matrix understood that, Dark City understood that, Altered Carbon got it, and Akudamma Drive played that fiddle like a true cyberpunk should till the very end. Akudama Drive gets what cyberpunk should be. Why 3.5 stars, a bit above mid rating? It takes more than understanding a formula to create a proper concoction. Akudama Drive spends too much time on stuff that doesn't matter and not enough time on stuff that does, that said, still worth a watch.
