This is the story of Anne, a young woman who decides to abort to finish her studies and escape the social constraints of a working-class family. France in 1963: a society that censures women's desires. And sex in general. This simple but cruel story follows the itinerary of a woman who decides to go against the law. Anne has only a little time before her. Her exams are just around the corner, and her baby bump is growing fast.
Incredibly powerful watch. Takes place in France in the 1960’s but it’s incredibly relevant in light of the recent SCOTUS overturning of Roe v. Wade. Anne (Anamaria Vartolomei) is a literature student that becomes pregnant. Abortion being illegal, she’s left without any legal ir safe options at her disposal. And because of the fear of imprisonment to anyone who helps her, she is left to navigate her predicament completely on her own. This is at times incredibly excruciating to watch and several scenes had me completely wincing in anguish struggling to maintain my gaze on the screen.  Definitely warrants a trigger warning, if you think you might have a reaction.
Highly recommend if you can bring yourself to watch this one.
