A Quiet Place: Day One faced great odds to buck the trend of inferior prequel movies. Could it introduce compelling relationships, teach us something new about its world, and ultimately engross us? No. As the credits rolled, I wondered how Paramount Pictures green-lit such a vapid film, one that bores and feels completely inessential to the superb franchise in its name.
