Beginning his first year of high school, all Matsuboshi Raidou wants is to make friends—starting with the cute, tiny, and soft-spoken Reina Aharen, who sits right next to him in class. Unbeknownst to Raidou, Reina shares the same sentiment, but she has a problem. Awkward and timid, Reina is incapable of determining how chummy she has to be when approaching a person.
Due to Reina's complete inability to gauge personal space, the two struggle to spark their unlikely friendship, as even the simplest tasks like talking seem impossible for them. But despite the countless yet pointless challenges that hinder the pair, the overly imaginative Raidou will do whatever it takes to befriend the indecipherable Reina.

A very cute slice of life romcom anime with an interesting premise, but said premise is drawn out and makes the show a bit dull and boring at times. Aheran is cute and goofy, and since she rarely emotes it makes the times she does that much sweeter. Raido is kind and just as emotionally stunted, however his constant inner monologues contrast his emotionless face. Like when a spin-off is created making a comedic side character the main character, having the 2 main characters in a show both be the 'straight-man' doesn't work really well. I love these 2 and their friendship to romance is adorable, but its difficult to get thru all the 'Raido puts Aheran on a high pedestal and gets it wrong' inner monologue jokes and the constant misunderstandings when the main characters barley react to them. It might've been better if some of the side characters had more screen time reacting to these 2 instead. Hope the 2nd season changes things up a bit.
