Pretty disappointed. So many of the same beats are hit again from the first movie. The intro, the regrowth process, the spike in the head, and the things that happen in the cab to name a few. Just didn’t feel as fresh this second go. They differently attempted more jokes this time, but a noticeable amount of them weren’t funny. They also try to be serious at times and it just doesn’t work within the framework of the movie. I loved the addition of Cable, thought his character was badass. The kid from Hunt for the Wilderpeople was good, but little annoyed that they pretty much copied that previous character 100% and just added a superhero power and the ability to say fuck. Also this is a plot that that I’ve seen countless times before. Ex.. T2, Looper. Also almost all the characters from the first film are pretty much on a victory lap. Given very little to do and it’s more like hey remember them? Here they are for thirty seconds. Lastly something, about this just feels cheap. Like the cgi action to Juggernaut. It just doesn’t feel like a normal blockbuster. I thought the cameos were great and really enjoyed the end credit scenes. Hopefully this franchise course corrects for the next one.
