Visual album from Beyoncé inspired by 'The Lion King'.
The way I thought I already reviewed this as part of my self-diagnosed Beyoncé obsession?! Especially since today is the 5-year anniversary of its release! Oh let me correct myself REAL quick! You know how we stay begging this lady for visuals after Renaissance and she just won’t release them? This here is probably why. These visuals are BRILLIANT and were severely under appreciated when they were released - she might not ever give us visuals again 🥲 Think of it as a modern retelling of The Lion King. Everything is a metaphor to that story told through her music. Not only that, but it’s a powerful love letter to Blackness: not just the music itself, but the artists that she collaborates with, the fashion, the locations, EVERYTHING. A super friendly reminder that in seeking to uplift Blackness, she isn’t putting down any other race of people. We are allowed to love ourselves and our cultures unapologetically, especially when it does no harm to others. If this bothers or upsets you - seek help. Every single vignette is so intentional and thoughtful. They’re VIBRANT in a way that’s powerful. It was also a big step away from what folks were accustomed to seeing from Beyoncé (even her own fans) and I think that’s what threw a lot of people off, but I promise that it’s worth your watch.
