The Prestige

The Prestige
Set in London in the 1800s, two rival magicians read each others diary containing the secrets of their magic tricks and personal life. As we go back in time when the diaries were written, both magicians become obsessed with their rival's best trick. The tricks, as shown to the audience, look the same, but neither magician can figure out how his opponent does it.

The Prestige is a one of a kind masterpiece. It pulls you in with the bright eyed optimism of young and hopeful magicians only to drag you down a dark path of rivalry and obsession. The leads turn out to be some of the worst people imaginable with absolutely no regard for the lives of anyone else.
Nolan manages to create facinating and interesting characters that almost everyone can agree are horrile. The performances are top notch accross the board (Save Andy Serkis' accent) and the dialogue sleek. The pacing is like a Rolly Royce, Smooth but Fast.
I've watched this film several times and pick up missed setups every time.
The 4K Bluray is solid if not spectacular.
