Young teenager Sam Witwicky becomes involved in the ancient struggle between two extraterrestrial factions of transforming robots – the heroic Autobots and the evil Decepticons. Sam holds the clue to unimaginable power and the Decepticons will stop at nothing to retrieve it.

Bayhem at its finest. Excellent blend of practical and visual effects, resulting in visuals that hold up brilliantly almost 20 years later. The performances range from passable to enjoyable, but the writing, as so often is the case, is the weakest element. Still, it’s leagues ahead of the many sequels and is best watched as a standalone movie. Popcorn flick with the visual energy and style that Bay never gets enough credit for.
