An entrancing and somewhat kinky cat and mouse chamber piece has Margaret Qualley and Christopher Abbott in a clash or sorts for dominance. This smart and darkly funny script kept me guessing throughout as we’re teased with false narratives in varying degrees. Qualley is mesmerizing and delivers a career best performance. Abbott continues to impress with every new role and he always seems to land projects that are exactly my speed. Sanctuary was a scintillating examination into power dynamics and an unconventional romantic film, perhaps. In any case, I love films where I can just watch two actors go at it.
Edit: sh🤩! Forgot to mention the score from Ariel Marx. It might be my favorite of the year. So good.
