Inspired by the timeless pursuits from Jane Austen's classic Pride and Prejudice, the story centers around two best friends (Joel Kim Booster and Bowen Yang) who set out to have a legendary summer adventure with the help of cheap rosé and their cadre of eclectic friends.

Did not realize this was an adaptation of Pride and Prejudice until about halfway through when it finally clicked. Also, I would not have expected to have watched this many gay romcoms in a single year, so that’s some promising progress for representation in cinema. Romcoms are not my favorite genre mostly because they have a tendency to be very formulaic. But even though this is another adaptation of a classic story, the LGBTQ+ angle and diverse casting injects a fair amount of freshness into Fire Island. Bowen Yang and Joel Kim Booster both give solid lead performances handling the humor and the drama really effectively. Well worth checking out.
