The Pianist

The Pianist
The true story of pianist Władysław Szpilman's experiences in Warsaw during the Nazi occupation. When the Jews of the city find themselves forced into a ghetto, Szpilman finds work playing in a café; and when his family is deported in 1942, he stays behind, works for a while as a laborer, and eventually goes into hiding in the ruins of the war-torn city.

An absolutely amazing true story of Holocaust survival through a combination of immense musical talent, personal connections, stoic determination, and the grace of incredibly good fortune. It has to be seen to be believed.
Polanski's film washes over you like a Chopin nocturne, replete with passages of deep emotion, ascending notes of tension, sudden tumultuous movements, and haunting interludes. Prepare to be affected and keep a tissue handy. The audience feels Szpilman's emotional pain and utter exhaustion...then ultimately his bittersweet relief.
