There was no real need for a live-action remake… but they actually nailed it. It’s one of my favorite DreamWorks films —and honestly, one of my favorite animated movies overall. It’s entertaining, yes, but also mature; it doesn’t treat the audience like toddlers.
I had no idea it was based on a novel, and that explains a lot. There were scenes I didn’t even remember, and rediscovering them was a real treat. I genuinely enjoyed it.
Sure, there were a few moments where the CGI wasn’t top-tier, but they clearly saved their resources for the climax —and when it counts, it delivers. The ending lands just right.
It’s an instant classic. Like I said, it wasn’t necessary… but I’m glad it exists.
