A young woman, on the run after 10 years in a suffocating marriage to a tech billionaire, suddenly realizes that her husband has implanted a revolutionary monitoring device in her brain that allows him to track her every move.
I really wanted to like this because I really like Cristin Milioti and Billy Magnussen and they both play their characters well. The concept of the show was also really interesting and I figured it "how could this suck?" But it did. The most interesting part of the series was a dolphin that spoke english but that part of the story was barely expanded on. It was a combination of Altered Carbon meets Surrogates meets Maniac without anything to drive it home. Without going into too much detail there is a billionaire who runs a secret R&D lab where he's about to unveil an implant chip that allows couples to be totally in love without any misunderstandings or miscommunication. The dude is a sociopathic megalomaniac and his wife escapes to be free. Eventually she's talked into coming back but wants the chip removed. In Season 2 they shift their R&D to being able to save someone's consciousness digitally in order to preserve them forever, but the main couple's digital back ups hijack their real life bodies while their real selves get trapped inside. This is where the show loses me because it can't pick a direction. I'm like "Is it about love? Nope it's about digital selves now. What about the dolphin?" There were so many unanswered questions. Combine that with a show that is more indecisive than your ex gf trying to decide what they want form DoorDash and you get a show that's cancelled before Season 3. Bummer.
