A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors

A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors
Picking up where the original Nightmare left off, a group of children at a local hospital face Freddy Krueger. One of them is Kristen. Working with a doctor assigned to the case, the kids realize their special abilities within the nightmare world. When Freddy captures one of them, they lead a rescue attempt into Krueger's domain, in hopes of putting his spirit to rest once and for all.

This was my absolute favorite of the Elm Street series growing up, and revisiting it for the first time in probably 30 years was a real trip. As a kid, the idea of a group of misfit teens banding together to fight Freddy in the dream world felt like the coolest concept imaginable.
It still holds up. The kills are creative as hell (that marionette death still makes me wince), the practical effects rule, and this one finds a great balance between the surreal nightmare logic and a more grounded emotional core. The idea of the dream warriors each having their own powers or personas is such a fun, comic book-y riff that gives the movie real personality. Love seeing young stars Patricia Arquette and Laurence Fishburne. Plus, the return of Heather Langenkamp as Nancy gives it a sense of continuity and heart that other sequels often lacked. And Freddy’s presence is still iconic, the imaginative flair is in full swing, and it’s still probably the most fun entry in the franchise.
